A gambeson is an indispensable part of reenactment and battle armour. Worn underneath the chain mail or plate armour, its thick padding prevents broken bones.
Historically chain mail protected the combatant from the direct impact of blows to the skin. In combination with the gambeson the impact was spread further and thus did less damage.

Made from four layers: two layers of a wool-polyester-mix, an outer layer of canvas (cotton) and an inner layer of soft cotton.
